Conventional materials necessitate a layer-by-layer rolling or tamping process for subgrade backfill projects, which hampers their utility in confined spaces and environments where compaction is challenging. To address this issue, a self-compacting poured solidified mucky soil was prepared. To assess the suitability of this innovative material for subgrade, a suite of performance including flowability, bleeding rate, setting time, unconfined compressive strength (UCS), and deformation modulus were employed as evaluation criteria. The workability and mechanical properties of poured solidified mucky soil were compared. The durability and solidification mechanism were investigated. The results demonstrate that the 28-day UCS of poured solidified mucky soil with 20% curing agent content reaches 2.54 MPa. The increase of organic matter content is not conducive to the solidification process. When the curing temperature is 20 degrees C, the 28-day UCS of the poured solidified mucky soil with curing agent content not less than 12% is greater than 0.8 MPa. The three-dimensional network structure formed with calcium silicate hydrate, calcium aluminate hydrate, and ettringite is the main source of strength formation. The recommended mud moisture content is not exceed 85%, the curing agent content is 16%, and the curing temperature should not be lower than 20 degrees C.

Pre-mixed fluidized solidified soil (PFSS) has the advantages of pumpability, convenient construction, and a short setting time. This paper took the excavated loess in Fuzhou as the research object and used cement-fly-ash-ground granulated blast furnace slag-carbide slag as a composite geopolymer system (CFGC) to synthesize PFSS. This study investigated the fluidity and mechanical strength of PFSS under different water-solid ratios and curing agent dosages; finally, the microstructure of the composite geopolymer system-pre-mixed fluidized solidified soil (CFGC-PFSS) was characterized. The results showed that when the water-solid ratio of PFSS increased from 0.46 to 0.54, the fluidity increased by 77 mm, and the flexural strength and compressive strength at 28 d decreased to 450.8 kPa and 1236.5 kPa. When the curing agent dosage increased from 15% to 25%, the fluidity increased by 18.0 mm, and the flexural strength and compressive strength at 28 d increased by 1.7 times and 1.6 times. A large number of needle-like AFt, C-S-H gel, and C-(A)-S-H gel coagulate with soil particles to form a three-dimensional reticular structure, which is the mechanism of the strength formation of PFSS under the action of CFGC.

As a new type of backfill material, Self-compacting solidified soil (SCSS) takes the abandoned slurry of cast-in-place piles after dewatering and reduction as the main raw material, which brings a problem of coordinating the working performance with the mechanical property under the condition of high mobility. In this paper, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) and metakaolin were introduced as additives to solve this problem. First, the workability and mechanical properties of SCSS were regulated and optimized by means of the water seepage rate test, the flowability test, and the unconfined compressive strength test. Second, this study also used X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to investigate the effects of HPMC and metakaolin on the physical phase and microstructure of SCSS. In this way, the results showed that there was a significant impact on the flowability of SCSS, that is, when the dosage reached 0.3%, the water seepage rate of SCSS was reduced to less than 1%, and the compressive strength at 7 days reached its peak. At the same time, HPMC weakened the strength growth of SCSS in the age period of 7 days to 14 days. However, the addition of metakaolin promoted its compressive strength. XRD analysis showed that the additives had no significant effects on the physical phases. And, from the SEM results, it can be seen that although the water-retaining effect of HPMC makes hydration of cement more exhaustive, more ettringite (AFt) can be observed in the microstructure. In addition, it can be observed that the addition of metakaolin can generate more hydrated calcium silicate (C-S-H) due to the strong surface energy possessed by metakaolin. As a result of the above factors, SCSS filled the voids between particles and improved the interface structure between particles, thus enhanced the compressive strength.
